Philosophy of the Practice of Law

There are various aspects of how Larry Israel practices law that significantly affect the benefits received by Clients.

2.  Estimates of Cost for an Assignment

As part of this philosophy, it is the firm’s practice to provide you with an estimate of hours to be spent on a project, when it may exceed 4-5 hours and when that is feasible (it cannot be done for some types of assignments).  Then you will know the approximate cost, and can decide whether it is in keeping with your thoughts as to “value”. For example, if the estimate of legal fees to collect a $20,000 account is $10,000, you may well decide that you should not employ an attorney for that activity.

Since the amount of legal effort required may vary due to unforeseen circumstances, or because an assignment proves more challenging than originally anticipated,

you may request that we let you know if the time actually spent begins to materially exceed any estimate given to you.  This will give you the opportunity to change or redirect the scope or the nature of the assignment, or even call a halt to it, if the perceived value is no longer there.

When possible (and, again we note that this cannot be done for every assignment), we will provide a fixed or maximum “not to exceed” fee, in writing, for the total work to be done.  This is generally feasible only for assignments of a highly specific and well-defined nature.
